Knox or Open Vault was first released in 2013. It is a two OpenU JBOD which contains two identical shelves of 15 disks. As with all OCP hardware servicing is done entirely from the front. Features include:
- Full redundant data path to each HDD
- 30 x 3.5″ SAS/SATA HDD
- Fold down HDD trays
- Six redundant fan modules
Each HDD tray contains one drive plane board with two SAS expander boards one fan control board.
Lightning is a Knox variant announced in 2016. It is a JBOF containing up to 60 NVMe SSDs in the same two OpenU chassis. Essentially 60 M.2 NVMe SSDs or 30 U.2 NVMe SSDs.
